Habits of Highly Empathetic People

Empathy is one of the most useful social skills. Empathetic people know how to manage many different interpersonal situations. In fact, people love to be surrounded by empathetic people, because it makes everything easier.

Becoming familiar with the characteristics of highly empathetic people is very useful, whether you want to learn how to be more empathetic yourself, or seek out highly empathetic friends. Discover the habits of highly empathetic people and decide who you want to be and who you want to be with.

What are Highly Empathetic People (HEP) like?

Being empathetic and highly empathetic are not the same thing. The latter has more personal emotional risks associated with it, but it’s more rare and a quality that many great leaders have.

1 – Highly empathetic people challenge biases
We all have assumptions about others and use collective labels that keep us from appreciating their individuality. Highly empathetic people challenge their own preconceived notions and prejudices and commit themselves to finding things they have in common with other people, instead of focusing on their differences.

2 – They cultivate curiosity about strangers
Highly empathetic people have an insatiable curiosity about other people. They’ll talk to the person next to them on the bus or in the waiting room at the dentist, or in basically any situation.

Curiosity breeds empathy for people that are outside of one’s social circle. This allows empathetic people to discover worldviews that are different from their own.

Curiosity is good for people. Martin Seligman identifies curiosity as a key way to improve life satisfaction. He also says that it’s a useful cure for chronic loneliness, which affects many people.

Cultivating curiosity requires more than a brief chat about the weather. Fundamentally, it’s about understanding the world inside the other person’s head. Challenge yourself by trying to have a conversation with a stranger each week. All you need is courage.

3 – They put themselves in others’ shoes
Highly empathetic people utilize experiential empathy. Experiential empathy involves putting yourself in the other person’s shoes, in order to directly experience the life of another person.

4 – They listen and open themselves up
Empathetic conversationalists have mastered the art of listening, and open themselves up to others. Highly empathetic people do this to the extreme.

They listen with intention and attention towards other people and do everything possible to understand others’ state of mind and emotional needs. But listening alone is not sufficient. They take it one step further, removing their masks and revealing their feelings to others, which is vital for the creation of a strong empathic link.

5 – They inspire action and social change
People generally assume that empathy occurs only on the individual level, but highly empathetic people understand that empathy can also involve groups of people, and as such can provoke fundamental social change.

We can grow and develop empathy throughout our lives and use it as a radical force for social transformation. Researchers in the field of sociology have revealed how we can turn empathy into an attitude, into a part of our daily lives, and in doing so improve the lives of everyone around us.

Leave The Past Behind So You Can Move Into The Future

We should all be grateful for our past. The good times and especially the challenging times, because all of it formed who we are today.

Be grateful for the hard times in your past, grateful for the lessons, grateful for the strength it gave you. Then, DECIDE that your FUTURE is more important. Let go of any negativity towards your past, people or events, and FOCUS on building your greatest ever future.

Leave the past behind so you can FOCUS on your FUTURE. Die to the past. So you can live fully now.

You must let go of your past pain. Your struggle. Your story. Not because it wasn’t important. But because your FUTURE… your LIFE is MORE important.

You see, you can’t CHANGE your past. Holding on to grudges will NEVER get you where you want to be.
Holding on to something you can’t change is INSANITY. Let go of it, so you can LIVE.
You see, I could have focused on all that was wrong with my life.
I could have played the victim card.
I had every right to curse the world for putting me in this position. For placing me in this neighborhood.
Why should I rough it out and others live in luxury.
Why should I suffer and others live free.
Why should I be homeless while others take for granted the roof over their heads.

But I believe I needed to see all of that, to go through all of that, to become the human I am today.

I chose not to be defined by my circumstances, but defined by my attitude towards beating my circumstances.
DEFINED by my ability to RISE above.

RISE above generations of limitation and lack!
RISE above lack of ambition around me!
RISE above negativity!
RISE above everything!

You see, I believe God only gives us what we have the strength to overcome.
I believe God only gives us what we need to become STRONG.

The pain I’ve been through,
The struggle I’ve been through,
It was all needed for me to be here today!

You can’t feel for others at rock bottom if you haven’t been there yourself.
You can’t  have courage if You haven’t had to FIGHT through your fears.
You can’t have strength if you haven’t had to get up time and time again from when life beats you down.
You can’t have compassion without suffering.
You can’t help others if you haven’t felt helpless.

I CHOSE TO LEAVE MY PAST BEHIND!
I DECIDED MY FUTURE WAS MORE IMPORTANT THAN HOLDING ON
THAN SAYING WHY ME

WHY ME?
NO… NO!
I SAY TRY ME!

Life tested me and I won.
Life will be back. Life will test me again.
But I now know I have the strength to overcome.

YOU CAN NOT WRITE THE NEXT CHAPTER OF YOUR LIFE IF YOU KEEP RE READING THE FIRST ONE.

The first one is no good compared to the rest!

YOU ARE THE AUTHOR OF YOUR STORY
DON’T LET OTHERS HOLD THE PEN
DON’T LET YOUR PAST PUBLISH YOUR BOOK
THIS IS YOUR STORY!
BE BRAVE WHEN WRITING YOUR STORY

DREAM BIG, KNOW YOU ARE STRONG, SO MUCH STRONGER THAN YOU GIVE YOURSELF CREDIT FOR LEAVING THE PAST BEHIND.

LEAVE the darkness of your past behind. So you can focus on letting in the light of your future. Your bright future.

Have An Attitude of Gratitude

In this crazy world of material things and endless seeking of MORE, most of us forget to take time to be grateful for what we actually DO already have.

Tony Robbins once said “Success, without fulfillment is the ultimate failure” Developing an attitude of gratitude is essential to a fulfilled life and therefor a successful life. The truth is gratitude has a compound effect in your life. The more you practice being grateful, the more in your life will show up for you to be grateful for.

When you get grateful for what you have now, you will soon have more to be grateful for … and it’s so true.

When you send out those feelings of gratitude, what happens – you become instantaneously happy, in this moment.

When you are grateful and happy with life, as it stands today, so many more things will flow into your life to be happy and grateful for.

And the reverse is also true:

If you feel like there is nothing to be grateful for – what are you focused on? You’re focused on everything you don’t want, you are focused on everything you don’t have, and what do you then think you will attract into your experience? Exactly, more of what you don’t want.

Make it your mission to sit down every day and get grateful.

Get grateful for those 2 gifts you have called eyes, many aren’t so lucky.

Get grateful for the ears that can here this music, Get grateful for that person in your life that made a difference.

Be grateful that YOU have the opportunity to make a difference in someone else’s life.

Get grateful for your tough times, because they helped develop your strength and spirit.

Get grateful for YOUR LIFE.

There is SO MUCH to be grateful for.

There’s something to be said about being appreciative and grateful. Whether you’re thanking god, or life, or whether you’re looking to a person in your world and just saying thank you. There’s something really special about that.

I mean, there’s something very real about moments where you can just sit by yourself, and look at your life, and just say thank you. You know, thank you for this GIFT.

Thank you for this ride that i’m on, thank you for this JOURNEY.

And a lot of people go through their lives without experiencing the beauty of these moments.

Your life, although perhaps filled with many imperfections, is still an experience. It’s an experience that people in their final moments would do anything just to grasp onto for a little while longer.

As you hear this, there are people who are taking their final breaths. Taking their final breaths on this planet. Looking back at their lives and WISHING they could have done more.

Meanwhile, we have this experience, we are alive, we’re breathing air, our hearts are pumping, our brain is doing billions of operations per second, just to keep the game going for us.

We can’t find reasons to be GRATEFUL for that? We can’t, as human beings, be appreciative for that?

There’s an entire spectrum of life you are missing out on when you don’t take moments to just feel. Just feel!

Just create moments of gratitude within yourself, just for the sake of being appreciative. For the sake of being ALIVE. That alone will change your life.

That will make you human again. That will disconnect you from this game of consumerism and this dog-eat-dog world we’ve allegedly created.

That will disconnect you from the insanity of society and reconnect you with something greater than yourself.

And i don’t care what you call it, call it god, call it the universe, call it life or magic. When you begin to be appreciative for life, there is a certain power that will bring you even more reasons to be appreciative.
It’s one of life’s greatest paradoxes. When you are in a state of needing this and needing that, it doesn’t matter how much you acquire, you will never have enough.

But, when you have the COURAGE to be grateful for what you already have, life will bless you with even more.

You know, you can decide, in this moment, to give it up.

Give up the complaining, give up the blaming and the accusing. Give up the gossiping and the whining and instead realize you are on an incredible journey, and fall in love with every second of it. That’s when you will truly come to life.
